Emma Wischmeier Serving as Law Clerk for Janzen Schroeder Ag Law

Janzen Schroeder Ag Law is committed to helping develop the next generation of lawyers and we are pleased to welcome Emma Wischmeier, a law student, who is currently serving as a law clerk for our firm. She is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Agribusiness Management and is currently in her second year at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis. Her ag roots from growing up on a farm in Bartholomew County, Indiana, and educational expertise make her a perfect fit for our practice as we speak the languages of both agriculture and law.

Emma is enjoying learning about the diversity of our work from contracts to litigation to green energy projects. She is also gaining perspective into situations farmers face, such as the complexities of managing ag data. Emma summarized the essence of this topic as she tuned into a recent presentation Todd gave to the American Farm Bureau Federation. “Todd explained that there are several problems with agricultural data most of which stem from the farmers’ contracts with the technology companies. The contracts can be complex and confusing, and there is an overall lack of trust between tech providers and farmers. To exacerbate the problems, there are limited laws and what laws are available are a ‘patchwork quilt’ protecting personal information.” The power of collaboration is another insight Emma is gaining as she learns about our work with Ag Data Transparent that brings together industry leading companies who are committed to transparency, simplicity and trust in the use of ag data.

Welcome, Emma!
